Event preparation
Before the event, everyone will need to do their part.
SIS organisers:
- Everyone must absolutely have a very clear idea about what’s going to happen at the sync event and how to prepare for it. This is crucial for the success of your first event
Stream leadership:
- Ensure the value stream has a good understanding of the company and value stream strategies. A context refresher before teams plan is usually helpful, especially if teams can question it before the event.
- Make available all context in models which can be used during the sync event.
Teams:
- Have an up-to-date plan captured in a delivery board or similar model.
- Be ready to present to the rest of the value stream their learnings from the previous iteration and intentions for the future one, in the format decided by the organisers.
All:
- If you are using Hot Topics, suggest topic for discussion.
Event feedback
Immediately at the end of the event, you absolutely must collect feedback to improve following events. Even if your event format has not changed, everything else has since the last iteration!
A survey works, but it can become stale so you’ll want to find ways to make people participate. Especially if the event is mature and working well, you still need to know with confidence and pick up any weak signals or ducklings of great ideas.
At physical events, we have used coloured cards, with optional comments, to deposit in baskets before exiting the room.
- Red card: Mostly a waste of time
- Yellow card: Just about useful
- Green card: Great use of my time!
